Washington High School all-state athletes Mia Reed and Mason Kauffeld have been named the Washington Missourian Athletes of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.

Competing at the MSHSAA Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 7, Reed earned all-state honors in Class 5 by placing in the top 25 of the girls individual standings.
Reed, a senior who is a three-sport all-state athlete (cross country, wrestling and track) captured her third career state medal in four trips to the state cross country meet by finishing in 12th place in a time of 18:53.6. Reed also placed 12th in last year’s Class 4 race in almost the exact same time, 18:53.4.
Kauffeld made history at the MSHSAA Class 1 Swimming Championships at the St. Peters Rec-Plex on Saturday, November 14. He became the first boys swimmer in school history to become a state medalist, and he did it in two events.
Kauffeld captured third-place honors in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 58.16 and fifth-place honors in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:58.35. He held the lead at one point during the 100-yard breaststroke finals race. He was Washington’s only qualifier at the state championships and earned 30 team points, placing the Blue Jays in 19th place in the team standings.
