Stefanie Virgen’s seventh-grade English students at Washington Middle School held a Scary Story Awards Ceremony, which rewards outstanding student writers.
The awards focus on various aspects of the students’ final narrative stories.
The award categories were Master of Characterization, Best Opening Sentence, Strongest Moment of Tension, Best Dialogue, Best Title, and Master of Editing.
“Each of these awards highlights an area in which students were expected to grow,” Virgen said. “We engaged in advanced writing stations, brainstormed and planned, created rough drafts, edited with peers, and used feedback for final drafts.”
The award winners were as follows:
Master of Characterization: Jack Henderson
Best Opening Sentence: Olivia Jensen
Master of Editing: Grace Gargrave
Strongest Moment of Tension: Sarah Stewart
Best Opening Sentence: Nathan Oreskovic
Best Dialogue: Katelyn Hill
Best Title: Nick Smith
