The Washington High School Mercy Pathway students were honored in the St. Francis Room at Mercy Hospital in Washington on Thursday, May 9.
Washington High School Mercy Pathway to Employment is a program for WHS seniors with a disability, who in lieu of attending classes at WHS, continue their senior year at Mercy Hospital.
According to WHS Special Services instructor Angie Schuttenberg, the students spend part of the day in a Mercy provided classroom where they learn important soft skills, such as conflict resolution and job place appropriateness.
For the remainder of the day, the students work in their departments with co-workers and mentors.
The participating departments are Environmental Services, Nutrition, Central Supply, Ambulatory Surgery Center, and the McAulley Clinic.
"We are so grateful for our partnership with Mercy, the sponsoring departments, and mentors, Empac, Washington School District and Wings Educational Foundation,” Schuttenberg said.
Students who were recognized in the ceremony were Nick Prince, Brendan Hanneken, Clara Wunderlich, Jacob Ninness and Matt Furchess.
Parents and other family members were on hand for the recognition ceremony.
