Labadie Elementary held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its playground update on Monday, March 18.
Students, staff, district officials, parents and community members were on hand to celebrate the event.
Planning and work on the playground update has been ongoing for nearly one year.
After several discussions, the Labadie PTC (Parent Teacher Committee) decided that fundraising efforts would start toward funding a playground update. The early stages of planning started and phases of purchasing were discussed. It was understood that this was to be a multi-year project due to the expenses. The PTC then started fundraising.
With that, and a few very generous donations to the PTC, the shopping for equipment started. In December of 2023, the PTC reached their fundraising goal. Ordering and delivery of the equipment took place shortly after reaching the goal.
After a few minor setbacks, and with the help of, the School District of Washington’s Buildings and Grounds crew, the Labadie Elementary playground is updated and ready for play. The planned multi-year project turned into a project that went from start to finish in less than one year.
"Our students and staff are so excited about our new updated playground. It is our hope that our students enjoy it, but also that our community members enjoy it as much we do,” said Labadie Elementary Principal Jennifer Pecka. “A special thanks goes to the Parent Teacher Committee, Labadie community, families who donated, and all of those who took the time to help during the fundraising efforts. We are so grateful.”
