The Washington High School varsity baseball Blue Jays played a pair of games against GAC Central rival Ft. Zumwalt North on Tuesday, April 26, at Dutzow Ballpark, and Wednesday, April 27, at Ft. Zumwalt North.
The Blue Jays (10-12, 4-6), coached by Dane Gough, fell short in both games.
The game at Dutzow went into extra innings with the visiting Panthers escaping with a 2-1 victory in eight innings.
Washington used four pitchers in the contest.
Gavin Matchell got the start on the mound and went three innings, allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and one strikeout. Cooper Thiemann took over and tossed two frames, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Ian Junkin also tossed two innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks. Sam Paule went one inning, surrendering one hit and one walk.
The Blue Jays collected three hits off Ft. Zumwalt North pitcher Tanner Paschke, who went all eight innings for the win.
Jake Baldwin, Luke Newhouse and Seth Roewe each had one hit for Washington. Newhouse scored the lone run. Hanon Jarvis drew a walk.
The game at Ft. Zumwalt North was won by the Panthers, 10-3.
The Blue Jays used five pitchers in the contest; Jake Baldwin, Drew Bunge, Morgan Copeland, Hunter Bakameyer and Logan Monzyk.
Gavin Matchell, Cooper Thiemann and Grant Trentmann each collected two hits. Thiemann had two RBIs. Aden Pecka added one hit and one walk. Bunge drew a walk.
