St. Louis Blues Street Hockey Program to Washington Middle School
The St. Louis Blues Street Hockey Program recently visited Washington Middle School for one full week to introduce the game to students.
The free ball hockey program aims to get elementary and middle school-aged children interested in the game of hockey. The program offers schools a physical education class curriculum and after-school activity that is a fast-paced alternative to traditional PE class units.
A Blues staff member visited the middle school throughout the week of October 14-18 to deliver equipment and teach street hockey to PE students.
WMS received street hockey equipment free of charge, which it will keep, for getting involved with the program. The equipment includes three dozen hockey sticks along with balls, goal nets and goaltender equipment.
WMS PE teachers Tom Haddox and Erin Wesselschmidt registered for the program last summer.
A Blues Street Hockey representative on hand at WMS on Wednesday, Oct. 16, said there’s currently a waiting list for schools to get involved with the program, largely because of the St. Louis Blues’ success last season in winning the Stanley Cup.
