The 15th Annual Community Festival of Trees took place during Saturdays and Sundays in December at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Washington.
Over 60 trees were decorated by various organizations and displayed. Schools, churches, businesses and community groups in the area had trees represented.
Visitors brought donations of canned food or money and placed their canned foods under the trees they liked best.
All canned food donations collected will be distributed between food pantries in Washington. Monetary donations will go to the Washington Emergency Relief Fund.
Four Rivers Career Center collected the most food, bringing in 1,370 canned food items. FRCC student Curtis Gupton donated 700 items himself.
Also representing the School District of Washington were WINGS Educational Foundation, the District Office, Washington High School, Washington Middle School, South Point Elementary and Marthasville Elementary.
Overall, the Festival of Trees collected 8,543 food items, over $1,000 and had approximately 1,700 visitors.
