Washington High School Senior Band Member Abby Raeker Named Recipient of John Philip Sousa Band Award
Washington High School senior clarinet player Abby Raeker is the winner of the WHS Band’s John Philip Sousa Band Award for the 2021-22 school year. The award recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication.
Every year, many bands around the country present a student with the John Phillips Sousa Award. The award was introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school band.
The John Philip Sousa Band Award recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. It was created with the approval of Helen Sousa Albert and Priscilla Sousa, daughters of the famous composer and bandmaster.
This year’s winner from WHS is senior clarinet player Abby Raeker. Abby plans to attend Truman State University and pursue a degree in education. She hopes to become a high school/middle school English teacher.
The Washington High School Band Program recently performed their annual Spring Concert.
