What a way to kick off the winter sports season at Washington High School.
For the first time in school history and for the first time in the area, the Washington wrestling program hosted an outdoor meet at Jim Scanlan Stadium on Friday, November 19. The event was called, “Scrappin at Scanlan Stadium.”
Washington’s boys competed against Westminster while the girls took on St. Clair.
A nice size crowd was on hand for the event, which also featured the WHS Cheerleaders, the Jaywalkers Dance Team, the Drumline, and the NJROTC, who presented the colors.
WHS Wrestling Coach Josh Ohm designated School District of Washington Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart as the honorary coach for the meet. She sat on Washington’s bench next to Ohm for the entire event.
Washington won both dual meets. The Blue Jays defeated Westminster in the boys meet, 66-18, and the Lady Jays knocked off St. Clair in the girls meet, 54-24.
Hopes are high for the WHS wrestling program this winter. There are approximately 50 boys and girls combined in the program.
