Washington High School Activities Director Bill Deckelman was named the Missouri Athletic Director of the Year during the MIAAA (Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association) Spring Conference April 6-9 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.
Deckelman has been in education for 25 years, 19 of which has been as Washington’s activities director.
Throughout his time as activities director, Deckelman has added multiple high school and middle school activities and has overseen many upgrades to facilities. Due to his accomplishments and impact on the Washington community, the new WHS baseball and softball facility will be named, “Deckelman Fields at South Point.”
“I consider it to be a great honor to be on the list of ADs that have been named the MIAAA State AD of the Year,” Deckelman said. “I could never do the things we do without a great support system at the School District of Washington, including coaches, student-athletes, administrative assistants, school board, parents, and the community. I also have an amazing family that supports the demands of my job.”
Deckelman began his career at Four River Career Center, where he was a marketing instructor and DECA advisor. During that time, he coached boys and girls varsity soccer, as well as middle school boys basketball, before taking his current position.

A current MIAAA board member and member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Appeals Committee, Deckelman also is the current President of the Gateway Athletic Conference and is the MIAAA secretary.
Deckelman has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Marketing, from Saint Louis University. He then received his Master of Education in Secondary Administration from William Woods University, and became a Certified Master Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA Leadership Program.
Other awards Deckelman has received are Missouri Cheer Coaches Association Administrator of the Year (2022), NIAAA State Award of Merit (2021), MIAAA South Central Athletic Director of the Year (2014) and MSHSAA 5-Star Leadership School (2011-12).
Bill is married to Ashley Deckelman, and has three children; McKenna, Devon and Brooklyn.
