Washington High School softball player Christine Gerling is the Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.
Gerling, a freshman pitcher, infielder and outfielder, has played a key role in the Lady Jays’ red-hot start to the season.
At the plate, Gerling has a batting average of .429 (12-28) with one home run, seven RBIs, five runs scored and an on-base percentage of .500.
In the pitching circle, Gerling has a 2-2 record with a 1.77 earned-run average. In 27.2 innings of work, she’s allowed 11 runs, seven earned, on 18 hits with 13 walks and 33 strikeouts. She tossed a no-hitter against GAC Central foe Ft. Zumwalt North.
After dropping their first four games of the season (three of them by one run), the Lady Jays currently are on a nine-game winning streak following a 4-2 win over Holt on Sept. 15, improving their record to 9-4.
