Jordan Scheer Children's Relay for Life Student Chairs Visit South Point Elementary
Washington High School student council members visited South Point Elementary on Wednesday, Jan. 16, to promote the Jordan Scheer Children’s Relay for Life, scheduled for Friday, April 26, at Scanlan Stadium on the WHS campus.
This year’s theme is “Home Runs for Hope.”
The event is put together by the WHS student council and leadership class. Proceeds are donated to the Franklin County Relay for Life and benefit the American Cancer Society and cancer awareness.
Student Chairs Elise Pruett, Matt Amlong, Emily Hahne, Gracie Boeckman, Lizzy Sontag and Kamryn Mitchell were on hand at South Point to speak to the students about the Children’s Relay for Life.
The relay is named in honor of Jordan Scheer, a WHS graduate who lost his battle to cancer shortly after his graduation in 2005.
Last year’s Relay for Life raised $22,000. This year’s goal is to raise $25,000. A total of $265,000 has been raised in the 13 years of the event.
Third through sixth grade children from area schools will participate in the event. They must have already registered to attend.
