Washington High School celebrated National FFA Week Feb. 22-29, 2020.
Chris Dunard, WHS Agriculture Education instructor and FFA adviser, and his students participated in week-long activities at WHS.
Monday, February 24 - Local Farm Tours: Morning students were to tour Riegel Dairy Farm, but were postponed because of the weather. Afternoon classes toured Deppe Swine Farm. The students were able to tour the farrowing, the nursery, and the finishing buildings. At the end of the tour, students had the chance to see the equipment used on the farm.
Tuesday, February 25 - Cherry Pie Day: Students brought Cherry Pie to school to be shared with supporters and sponsors as well as faculty and staff at WHS. There was a FFA volleyball tournament held in the Little Blue Jay Gym that evening.
Wednesday, February 26 - Official Dress Day: Students wore their Official FFA Dress to school to show their pride in their organization. First and second hour students were visited by Dr. Rebecca Mott and a few of the students and former students from the University of Missouri - Columbia. The FFA Officers met with Washington City Mayor Sandy Lucy for a proclamation signing. The FFA Officers then attended a luncheon with the Washington Optimist Club at Moe's Pizza.
Thursday, February 27 - Faculty, Staff, and FFA Member BBQ: FFA members planned, prepared, and served a BBQ lunch to WHS, Four Rivers Career Center, and maintenance staff for supporting their program.
Friday, February 28 - Tractor Safety and Farm Animal Petting Zoo: Students who met the requirements brought their tractors or farm animals to school. A total of 29 tractors were judged on safety requirements and appearance. The farm animals were displayed for all to see and touch. There were many students from WHS and WMS who attended the event in the Nix Parking Lot.
