The closing ceremony for School District of Washington staff was held Tuesday morning, May 31, in the CJB Theater at Washington High School.
The ceremony marked the end of the 2021-22 school year and celebrated accomplishments, presented service awards, technology recognition, recognized and thanked retirees, announced staff scholarships, and announced WINGS awards.
Students in the NJROTC program presented the colors for the Pledge of Allegiance. The cadets on hand were Tristen Koehmstedt (Right Rifle), Jackson Marts (National Ensign), Jacob Moore (Missouri Flag) and Jacob Hamel (Left Rifle).
Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart and Board of Education President Dan Leslie addressed the staff.
Brad Mitchell spoke on behalf of WINGS.
Announcing honors and service awards were SDOW Assistant Superintendents Dr. Rachael Franssen, John McColloch and Maranda Anderson.
Paula Mueller, Assistant Network Administrator, was named the School District of Washington and WINGS Support Staff Employee of the Year.
Receiving the Dr. Jane and Doug Reed Scholarship for $2,000 apiece were Campbellton Elementary third-grade teacher Candace Kluba (certified staff) and SDOW occupational therapist Jessica Petty (support staff).
The top selling school of the WINGS discount cards was Campbellton Elementary.
Members of the Junior WINGS Board were introduced: Nora Danz, Matthew Freitag, Austin Gober, Madeline Grimes, Jack Henderson, Victor Hoang, Jillian Huellinghoff, Bri James, Agatha Johnston, Ian Junkin, Presley Kiser, Kaylee Krafft, Ben Loesing, Brayden McColloch, Emily McCormach, Max Mueller, Ethan Pier, Raegan Thiemann, Sydnee Winchester and Olivia Zastrow.
Retiring staff members recognized were Kim Hunt, Glenda Leslie, Kelly Wood, Carla Campbell, Kim Minnich-Contarini, Ed Stahl, Doug Light, Greg Traffas, Mary Rehmeier, Amy Brinkmann, LuAnn Engelbrecht, Tammy Clark, Cathy Day, Lynne Kuchem, Karen Kassebaum, Andy Robinson, Tom Hakenewerth, Brian Stuesse and Joe Thorp.
Honored for 30 years of service was Heike Sehrt.
Honored for 25 years of service were Chris Marquart, Matt Kroeter and Rebeca Burns.
Honored for 20 years of service were Chris Arnold, Julie Bell, Amy Bruckerhoff, Denver Ellis, Melissa Hoerstkamp, Mary Knight, Ann Loesing, Dawn Martin, Josh Ohm, Kristen Perriman, Mary Rehmeier, Katie Sandoval Molly Soete-Figas, Julia Warren, Rod Whitener, Kelly Wood and Melissa Ziegler.

Staff who participated in the Teaching With Technology Leadership Academy and received honors during the school year also were recognized.
