Students in the School District of Washington’s Horizons Academy recently completed a Valentine’s Day project by making chocolate covered pretzel rods made available for all District staff.
The pretzel rods were dipped in chocolate with a white chocolate drizzle and finished off with sprinkles. Each order was packaged in a valentine bag ready for gift giving.
Two options were available for staff, a bag of three pretzel rods for $3 or a bag of six pretzel rods for $5. A google form to order the pretzel rods was emailed to District staff.
Horizons Academy is a program housed at Four Rivers Career Center comprised of exceptional students working toward goals related to post-secondary paths.
As a part of the program for this project, students ran a small business just in time for Valentine's Day. The business provided students the opportunity to work on many skills ranging from taking orders, preparing items in a safe environment, packaging, delivery, and much more.
Horizons Academy instructor Stacey Siefken supervised the project.
Approximately 180 orders were taken totaling over 800 pretzels. Students delivered the pretzels to 13 buildings within the District on Friday, February 10. Empac helped with the transportation.
