Six wrestlers represented Washington High School at the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships Feb. 20-22 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Three boys and three girls competed at state wrestling for Washington. All six wrestlers won at least one match. Three of them earned all-state honors.
State Medalists
Earning all-state honors by placing in the top six of their respective weight classes were senior Chris Griesenauer and sophomore Gavin Holtmeyer for the boys and junior Mia Reed for the girls.
Competing in the Class 3 ranks, Griesenauer captured fourth-place honors at 220 pounds. After dropping his opening match by an 8-5 decision, Griesenauer won his next four matches, all by fall, to advance to the third-place match.
Griesenauer recorded a 4-2 record at the state meet to claim his first career state medal in two appearances.
Griesenauer ended his senior season with a 37-12 record.
Holtmeyer captured sixth-place honors at 285 pounds. Making his second trip to the state meet, he reached the semifinals with wins in the first two rounds, which guaranteed him a spot on the podium. He lost in the semifinals to the eventual state champion.
Holtmeyer ended his sophomore season with a 37-13 overall record.
Competing in the girls division, Reed made her second career state appearance and earned her first state medal by claiming fourth-place honors at 110 pounds.
Reed won her first two matches to reach the semifinals, where she suffered only her second loss of the season. She bounced back with another win to reach the third-place match.
Reed ended her junior season with a record of 38-3.
State Qualifiers
Collin Muller posted a 1-2 record at the state meet at 182 pounds. He finished his senior season with a 31-18 record.
Allison Meyer won her opening match at 115 pounds before losing to the eventual runner-up in the quarterfinals. She won her first match in the wrestlebacks, but was eliminated in her next match.
Meyer ended her junior season with a 38-5 record and her second career state appearance.
Halaina O’Bryant posted a 1-2 record at the state meet at 135 pounds. She finished her senior season with a 30-12 record, qualifying for state for the first time.
