Washington High School’s 122nd commencement was held Thursday, May 25, at Washington High School’s Scanlan Stadium.
There were approximately 320 seniors in the Class of 2023 who received diplomas.
Washington High School Principal Dr. Kelle McCallum welcomed guests to commencement and introduced administrators and Board of Education members on or near the stage.
The WHS band performed “Pomp and Circumstance,” by Elgar Polyhar.
The WHS NJROTC was on hand for the presentation of colors.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jessie Tovo, Vice President of the Class of 2023.
The WHS choir performed the school song and the national anthem.
Assistant Principals Ben Strauser and Mary Kleekamp announced students earning honors and high honors.
Assistant Principal Shawn Wallace announced the graduating seniors who gave addresses. Those students were Emma Wheeler, Leah Wheeler, Brooke Holtmeyer, Blake Ford and Matthew Freitag.
School District of Washington Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart gave the superintendent’s message.
Dan Leslie, President, spoke on behalf of the Board of Education and presented the diplomas.
Kelly Richard, retiring WHS counselor, presented the Class of 2023.
Board of Education members presented diplomas.
Evan Gaither, Senior Class President, led the seniors in the turning of the tassel.

Senior class sponsors are Amanda Kuntzman and Kyle Ellrich.
This year’s class song is “Counting Stars” by One Republic.
The class flower is Hydrangea.
The class motto is, “Let’s Go Blue Jays,” by Ed Stahl.
