Washington Middle School’s eighth grade girls softball team recently captured first-place honors at the New Melle Tournament.
The tournament featured 24 teams, many coming from the St. Louis and St. Charles areas.
The team is a feeder team for Washington High School, which helps the girls prepare for high school softball.
Most of the players on the Washington team are in eighth grade, although a couple of them are in seventh grade.
Team members are Taylor Brown, Kelsey Holtmeyer, Abbi Grafrath (7th grade), Grace Molitor (7th grade), Maddie Guevara, Lacy Monzyk, Ella Lause, Kristine Gerling, Kendall Nix and Lauren Opfer.
The Washington team is coached by Steve Molitor, Danny Gerling, Michelle Holtmeyer and Kendall Nix.
