Washington High School is celebrating its first season of girls tennis as a fall sport.
The Lady Jays, coached by Bill Stahlhuth, have a great turnout with 28 girls on the roster.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams have competitive through the early part of the season. The varsity team owns a 9-0 victory over St. Charles West. The lady Jays dropped a 5-4 contest to North Point and also has lost to Holt. The JV team has defeated North Point and St. Charles West and has lost to Holt.
Evie Bryson, a sophomore, has been one of the top singles players for the Lady Jays so far this season. Katy Young, a senior, also owns a singles victory, as does seniors Kendal Warren and Mya Wardwell, and freshman Vivien Grant.
The Lady Jays also have had success in doubles matches. Seniors Jessica Schroeder and Morgan Tooley own victories. Senior Becca Davis and junior Liz Davis also have competed together in doubles action.
Other seniors on the roster are Catalina Clarke, Lily Grant, Alexandria Missey and Alexis Perriman.
Freshmen Eleni Kriete, Mackenzie Marshall and Katelyn Hill, and sophomore Andrea Bryant won sets against Holt.
Washington plays its home matches at Phoenix Center Park.
