Opening their fall golf season at Wolf Hollow Golf Club on Tuesday, Aug. 28, the Washington Lady Jays finished in second place out of three teams against Timberland and Lutheran South.
On a hot and humid afternoon, Timberland claimed top honors with a team score of 201. Washington placed second with 215. Lutheran South was third with 218.
The meet’s medalist, posting the top nine-hole score, was Lutheran South’s Peyton Stoddard with a round of 46.
Washington was led by senior Jordan Aholt, who carded a score of 49.
Hailey Howerton, a senior, and Mia Lanemann, a sophomore, both fired rounds of 55.
Kyla Engemann, a freshman, posted a score of 56.
Clara Evans, a junior, shot a round of 60. Emily Molitor, a freshman, posted a 61.
“For the first match of the season, and for the first varsity match for five of the girls, we can leave the course fairly happy,” said Washington Golf Coach Adam Fischer. “A few of the girls left frustrated with their personal score, but if they look back at the scorecard, it was mainly one or two holes that hurt them. I was pleased with their ability to manage the course in the hot conditions. Our focus will be to improve a little each day, whether we practice or have a match.”
