The Washington Blue Jays select boys basketball program will hold tryouts for traveling competitive teams for the upcoming winter season for third-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade boys.
The tryouts will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Little Blue Jay Gym at Washington High School.
Times of the tryouts will be from 5-6:15 p.m. for grades 3 and 4 and 6:15-7:30 p.m. for grades 5 and 6.
Some teams already have been mostly filled with players and coaches in a few grade divisions from playing together in previous seasons, leaving only one or two spots open on a team. If there is enough interest to form a new team, a parent must volunteer to coach the new team.
Each teach will keep 8-10 players. These are select competitive teams, so cuts will occur. There will be some cost involved, usually for uniforms and weekend tournaments.
Washington High School boys basketball coaches Grant Young and Adam Meyer will run the tryouts, along with each grade level coach.
Games will consist of 4-8 tournaments around the area selected by each individual coach.
If a player does not make a select team, a fifth- and sixth-grade Junior Jays recreational program also is offered.
