Marching Blue Jays Place First at Sullivan; Host Band Festival Saturday, October 2
The Washington High School Band, “The Pride of Washington” competed at the Sullivan Band Competition on Saturday,” September 25, at Sullivan High School.
In the preliminaries, the Blue Jays captured first-place honors in their division and also were first place overall in all divisions while capturing the award for best visual and best general effect.
Washington High School kept it going in the finals, placing first overall while again claiming best visual and best general effect.
Stewart Alloway is the Director of Bands at Washington High School. Jacob Bisaillon is Assistant Director of Bands/Director of Percussion. Madeline Watts is Assistant Director of Bands/ Director of Bands at Washington Middle School.
WHS Marching Band Festival
The Washington High School Band Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 2.
The festival features a parade competition and a field competition.
As the hosts, the Washington High School Marching Blue Jays will give exhibition performances in both the parade and field competitions. They are not eligible for awards.
The parade begins at 8:30 a.m. Washington will be the last entry in the parade and should step off at approximately 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at Main and Cedar. It will continue on Main Street, turn on Jefferson Street to Eighth Street and end at Sunnyside.
The field competition at Scanlan Stadium begins following the parade at approximately 11 a.m.
Washington is scheduled to participate in the field competition with an exhibition performance at 5:45 p.m.

WHS Marching Blue Jays
The WHS Marching Blue Jays is comprised of students in grades 9-12. They begin rehearsing in June and finish their season in November with football playoff games. They travel to local competitions and compete at BOA St. Louis. Their show brings competitive elements to the field as well as interesting music, design, and color guard.
The Blue Jays also are involved in many parades throughout the year. They start the season with the Washington Fair Parade in August, march in the Washington Band Festival Parade as exhibition in October, and march in the City of Washington’s Christmas Parade held the day after Thanksgiving.
