Students from the Four Rivers Career Center’s Automotive Technology and Night Shift class were one of 12 Finalists competing in the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition held in Indianapolis Oct. 29-Nov. 1.
Working over a long period of time at their home school, student teams of one or more from across the country took an old rusty tractor that was once a vital part of farming and restored it to its former glory.
The students documented the process down to every small detail of the operation and submitted it for competition.
A panel of expert judges then narrowed the initial round of entries to a group of 12 finalists.
All selected Finalists, including the group from the Four Rivers Career Center, were invited to the National Finals Competition, held in conjunction with the National FFA Convention.
Finalists made an oral presentation of their project to a panel of four tractor restoration specialists.
Judging was based on the restoration of the tractor, proper safety procedures, documentation of the process, oral presentation, and a 20-minute question and answer session by a panel of restoration expert judges.
Winners were announced at an awards ceremony held on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Only the top three finishers were announced. The Four Rivers Career Center team did not make the top three.
The FRCC Night Shift students, under the supervision of instructor Dan Brinkmann, restored a 1941 Farmall H tractor.
The students who participated in the competition, all from Washington High School, were Logan Williams, David Ley, Logan Brueggemann, Colton Fischer and Logan Adams.
Each of the FRCC students who participated received a belt buckle and a bag of other prizes.
