Competing in the championship game of the Class 3 District 8 Girls Soccer Tournament at Washington High School, the top-seeded Washington Lady Jays captured the title with a 3-0 victory over second-seeded Borgia on Wednesday evening, May 19.
Joie Heien scored two goals and Grace Landwehr added one goal for the Lady Jays, who held a 1-0 halftime advantage. Jessie Donnelly, Mia Lanemann and Emma Vodnansky each had one assist.
Ariel Pettis registered the shutout in goal.
Washington, coached by Adam Fischer, opened district action with a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Warrenton on Monday, May 17.
Rebekah Lewis scored four of the five Lady Jays’ goals in the game. Landwehr had a goal and two assists. Mia Lanemann added two assists. Brooke Owens had one assist. Pettis registered the shutout in goal.
Washington (13-11) advances to the Class 3 sectional round on Tuesday, May 25, against either Ft. Zumwalt South or Wentzville Liberty. Those two teams play for the District 7 championship on Friday, May 21.
