Washington High School’s Jordan Scheer Memorial Children’s Relay for Life took place on Friday, April 23.
This year’s 16th annual event was held virtually and put together once again by WHS student council and leadership students under the guidance of advisers Allison Graves and Samantha Loepker.
The theme this year was, “Knocking Cancer Off The Board.”
This year’s event chairs were seniors Abbie Dewert, Josie Obermark and Emily Frick and juniors Amber Christeson, Anna McFarland and Octavio Meza.
The event chairs hosted live zoom sessions that included games and activities for students in grades three through six to participate. There were also pre-recorded videos that the elementary students could watch at any time.
Approximately $11,000 was raised. Proceeds from the event are donated to the Franklin County Relay for Life and benefit the American Cancer Society and cancer awareness.
The relay is named in honor of Jordan Scheer, a WHS graduate who lost his battle with cancer shortly after his graduation in 2005.
