Coming off a third-place finish at the Borgia Thanksgiving Tournament, Washington’s varsity boys basketball team played at Union on Tuesday, November 29, falling to the Wildcats, 48-43.
The game was tied midway through the fourth quarter before Union took the lead for good in the final minutes.
Grant Young’s Blue Jays (2-2) defeated Union in the opening round of the Turkey Tournament, 64-52.
In the championship semifinals, Washington lost to eventual tournament champion Borgia, 77-48, but bounced back in the third-place game to defeat GAC Central rival Ft. Zumwalt North, 60-56.
Representing Washington on the all-tournament team were senior forward Mark Hensley and junior guard Adyn Kleinheider. Hensley averaged 18.6 points per game in the tournament while Kleinheider averaged 16 points per game.
Washington’s varsity roster features seniors Mark Hensley, Sam Paule, Brayden McColloch, Ian Junkin and Carter Riegel, juniors Adyn Kleinheider, Kaner Young, Dylan Bartlett and Tai’Sean Williams, sophomores Jaden Grosse and Wyatt Bobo, and freshmen Demetrius Lockett and Nolan Wieland.
Young is being assisted by Bill Juengel, Adam Fischer and Ben Hornback.
