Washington Middle School held its spelling bee on Monday, February 22.
Language Arts and Challenge teacher Stefanie Virgen served as coordinator of the spelling bee, with the help of Principal Laura Bruckerhoff.
The final online spelling bee consisted of students who won their classroom level spelling bell, which qualified them for the final.
Those students were Deegan Barnes, Cade Brown, Damien Butler, Kiley Dodson, Grace Gargrave, Amber Glastetter, Zachary Gossage, Gabriel Gordon, Ava Green, Hazel Hedrick, Hannah Heining, Chase Humphries, Madeleine Jensen, Dakota Johnson, Rylee Kinney, Harvick Kleinheider, Dylan Mackin, Sophia Martin, Nathan Oreskovic, Carter Riegel, Will Schenk, Ty Schnelting, Addison Schomberg, Carter Schulte, Mason Shryock, Wyatt Sullentrup, Cash Vedvig and Brooklyn Whitby.
Dakota Johnson, an eighth-grade student, was the winner of the spelling bee. Nathan Oreskovic, a seventh-grade student, was the runner-up.
Johnson will represent Washington Middle School at the Regional Spelling Bee at Lindenwood University this spring.
