WHS Soccer Players Avery Lanemann (KLPW), Sammy Williams (Missourian) Named Athletes of Week
Washington High School soccer players Avery Lanemann (KLPW Radio) and Sammy Williams (Washington Missourian) have been named Athletes of the Week.
Lanemann, a junior midfielder, is off to a fast start to the season with seven goals and one assist, leading the Lady Jays to a 4-1 record. She has 27 goals and eight assists so far in her career.
“Avery is one of the most consistent players I have ever coached. I always know we will get solid play from her and that she will make her teammates around her better,” said Washington Head Soccer Coach Adam Fischer. “During her club season, she typically plays a defensive position and moves up when her teams attack. For us, she has always been a midfielder. That is not always an easy change for kids to make, and Avery seems to make it a flawless one every year. Her skills and mental approach to each game always gives us a chance to win.”

Williams, a freshman forward, has begun her high school soccer career in impressive fashion, collecting seven goals and four assists in the first five games.
“As a freshman, Sammy has had one of the best starts to a season in our school’s history,” Fischer said. “She has a motor that never quits, and a knack for scoring goals or setting up her teammates. We instantly became a better team when Sammy joined our program.”
