Washington High School softball player Taylor Brown is the Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.
Brown, a senior pitcher and first baseman, registered 19 strikeouts against Liberty and 18 strikeouts against Marquette in recent games.
Heading into Wednesday’s game against Borgia, Brown had a record of 15-0 with a 0.71 earned-run average. In 98 innings, Brown has allowed 17 runs, 10 earned, on 42 hits with 13 walks and 175 strikeouts.
At the plate, Brown has a batting average of .562 (45 hits in 80 at-bats) with 13 walks and 24 runs to go with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs. She’s Washington’s single-season record holder in home runs.
Brown was last year’s Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year.
The Lady Jays, ranked No. 1 in the Class 4 state poll, took an overall record of 26-1-1 into Wednesday’s game against Borgia.
