Matt Gill, PC Technician for the technology department at the School District of Washington, is the January recipient of the Blue Jay Pride Award.
The Blue Jay Pride Award was introduced to recognize and showcase quality School District of Washington staff and the focus on the District’s core beliefs. Through peer nomination, individuals are able to acknowledge exceptional staff who positively impact the schools, district and community.
The individual who is recognized each month will be presented with a traveling plaque and gift card.
Gill’s three nomination forms state the following:
“Matt, along with Dustin (Woods) and Erik (Houston), have shown they are advocates for education by placing an importance on providing a quick response to technology issues that may impair instruction and learning. All three gentlemen dedicated their time to come to our classroom and work until all student devices were addressed. A few days later, Matt returned with a tool to work on one last concern. About five minutes before he entered, our projector had completely shut down. The kids were surprised that he had come so quickly. I explained why they were surprised to see him and said I was going to add a Help Desk for it to be checked. Instantly, Matt walked over and took a quick peek and asked if it would be okay if he addressed it right now as it was not just the bulb, but the outdated projector. He left and brought back another, and before lunch I was up and running again. When I thanked him and said I had not expected him to take care of it so quickly, his response was that this was something that impacted my instruction and therefore the students learning and was a priority to address. I so appreciate that teamwork and attitude of our new tech team.”
“Matt is a rock star. Even though he hasn't been officially assigned to our school, Matt and the new techs have really come through in meeting our technology needs. He is always quick to respond to a ticket, stays as long as necessary to make sure all new problems and requests for assistance are taken care of. He even takes the time to teach us how to fix common problems or another way to tackle an issue. Overall, we enjoy his pleasant demeanor, approachability and professionalism.”
“Matthew is one of the hardest working employees that the School District of Washington has. He is a wonderful example of Blue Jay Pride. Matthew models ROCK in the following ways: Respect - Matthew is polite and respectful to all staff and students. He truly cares about employees in this district and always holds himself to a high standard. Ownership - Matthew takes great pride in his work and performance. He constantly makes sure that our staff and students have what they need to work and learn. Commitment - Matthew's work ethic is apparent in everything he does. He stays focused on his projects and gets every job in a timely manner. We can always count on him to follow through and support us when technology isn't reliable. Kindness - Matthew genuinely cares about every person he comes in contact with. He smiles and speaks kindly to others, and makes you feel heard. Overall, Matthew is more than deserving of just one award. He is more appreciated than he will ever realize and we are so very thankful he is a SDOW TLC Blue Jay.”
Gill was presented the traveling plaque by SDOW Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. He also received a gift card from Becky Buhr, Bank of Franklin County.
