Washington High School opened its varsity girls soccer season by capturing the title of the Warrenton Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20.
The Lady Jays, coached by Adam Fischer, cruised through the tournament, outscoring their three opponents by a 22-0 margin.
Washington (3-0) notched victories over Elsberry 9-0, Warrenton 6-0 and Sullivan, 7-0.
Ariel Pettis was in goal for all three of Washington’s games. Nora Mendoza also saw time in goal.
Eight different Lady Jays scored goals in the win over Elsberry.
Joie Heien led the way with two goals. Grace Landwehr, Mia Lanemann, Avery Lanemann, Rebekah Lewis, Sadie Miller, Abby Moore and Abi Waters each netted one goal. Susie Heggemann, Mia Lanemann, Brooke Owens, Molly Tinkey and Lewis each added one assist.
Avery Lanemann had a hat trick with three goals in the win over Warrenton. Emma Vodnansky, Heggemann and Lewis each scored one goal.
In the victory over Sullivan, Mia Lanemann and Heggemann both netted two goals. Maci Rohlfing, Heien and Vodnansky each scored one goal. Mia Lanemann, Heien, Lewis and Owens each had one assist.
For the tournament, Avery Lanemann, a freshman, scored four goals. Her older sister, senior Mia Lanemann, added three goals and two assists. Heien, a senior, and Heggemann, a freshman, both collected three goals and one assist. Lewis, a senior, added two goals and two assists. Vodnansky, a senior, scored two goals.
Following road matches against Pacific and Ft. Zumwalt East, the Lady Jays will play their home opener on April 1 against Francis Howell North.
