A bench dedication ceremony for the late Penny Wilmesherr took place at Washington High School on Monday afternoon, May 9.
Wilmesherr was a longtime administrative assistant at Washington High School before retiring following the 2019-20 school year. She passed away in October of 2020.
Wilmesherr worked in the School District of Washington for 31 years, where she was in the high school guidance office and then the principal’s office as an administrative assistant.
Hen and Cackle, led by Elise Homeyer, organized a fundraising effort to buy a bench to dedicate in Penny's name. WHS faculty and staff donated to the bench.
The bench is located outside the west wing office, which is the last office Penny worked in at Washington High School before her retirement. The bench serves as a welcoming spot for visitors to the west wing at WHS.
Washington High School Principal Dr. Kelle McCallum served as the master of ceremonies. Friends, family and co-workers were in attendance, some of whom spoke. Also on hand was Penny’s husband, Steve Wilmesherr, along with their children and grandchildren.
