Washington High School Wrestler Julia Donnelly Named Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week
Washington High School wrestler Julia Donnelly is the Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.
Donnelly, a junior, earned her second career state wrestling medal during the MSHSAA Girls Wrestling Championships February 17-19 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia with a fourth-place finish at 110 pounds.
Donnelly posted a 4-2 record at the state meet, ending her season with an overall record of 38-8.
After falling in the quarterfinals, Donnelly won three straight matches in the wrestlebacks to reach the third-place match. She is now a two-time state medalist after placing fifth at 102 pounds last season.
Donnelly placed second at the district meet, helping the Lady Jays secure their second straight district championship.
It’s been quite a junior year for Donnelly, who also earned all-state honors during the fall cross country season by finishing in fourth place in the Class 4 girls race with a time of 18:38.2.
