Pride of Washington Sweeps Class at Greater St. Louis Marching Band Festival
Washington High School’s Marching Band, “The Pride of Washington,” finished their 2022 fall competition season at the Greater St. Louis Marching Band Festival on Saturday, October 29, at Belleville West High School.
The Pride made a clean sweep in all captions with top General Effect, Music, Visual, Color Gaurd, and Percussion. The Pride took home First Place Overall, and Overall Grand Champion of the Red/Blue Combined Classes. This is a first in the program’s history.
The Pride finished one of their most successful seasons in program history by finishing top three in nearly every competition, including a two-time class champion at the Ft. Zumwalt North Invitational and the Greater St. Louis Marching Invitational.
The Pride also competed at the Bands of America St. Louis Super Regional this season and placed in the top 30 out of 64 bands. This competition is one of the most difficult in the country, and premieres some of the best band programs of Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois and Indiana. It was the highest placement in program history.
“The Pride of Washington staff couldn't be more proud of these students. Not because of placing so well this season, but from the amount of growth we have seen from them over the past two years,” said Washington Director of Bands Stewart Alloway. “These students have bought into the system and will only continue to grow stronger every year. The future looks incredibly bright for the program and this community as we are looking at a band size of over 200 by the fall 2024."
