School District of Washington Purchases Building for Technology and Learning Center's New Location
The School District of Washington will soon have a new home for its Technology and Learning Center.
The district recently purchased a building at 5 Chamber Drive in Washington that will house the TLC. The current Technology and Learning Center at 4245 Highway 47 in Washington is up for sale.
The building on Chamber Drive will house all of the resources in the current Technology and Learning center and also have a database server room with the capacity to protect the district’s computer data hardware.
The facility on Chamber Drive will provide added space and updated support for the district’s technology needs. The building will be equipped with the resources necessary to support the district’s increasingly digital educational landscape.
There’s been a need for a new server room in the district for quite some time. The current server room in the Board of Education building on Locust Street uses between 85 and 95 percent of its electrical and cooling capacity each day. That number is not supposed to exceed 50 percent.
Summer heat over the years has put extreme pressure on the system, causing it to fail several times. The current server room, built in 2004, is completely full and has no room for improvements or new servers.
The original plan was to house a new server room in the gymnasium of the Board of Education building, until the property on Chamber Drive became available for purchase.
The district is in the process this summer of moving its technology resources into the new facility and plans to open it in the fall in time for the new school year.
