WMS Agricultural Sciences Dairy CouncilLast summer, Kaylin Bade’s agricultural sciences program at Washington Middle School was awarded a $1,600 grant from the St. Louis Dairy Council to purchase cheese making supplies, including three instant pots, cheese presses, a recipe book, and many consumables related to making cheese and yogurt. The Dairy Council also reimbursed the program for milk purchases last year and last semester.

Jessica Kassel, a representative from the St. Louis Dairy Council, was on hand at Washington Middle School to visit the agricultural sciences program on Thursday, May 2. She watched the students in action in the “Blue Farm Kitchen” at WMS making sour cream, ricotta, and other ingredients to go into the meal that was prepared with all of these items.

Bade’s fourth hour class did the prep work, and her fifth hour class put it all together.

The menu items included fried dill pickle chips, ranch dressing dip, homemade pasta and alfredo sauce, roasted radishes and wilted greens, and lemon ricotta cheesecake. Click here for the menu of what the students put together in the agricultural sciences class. Photos are below.
