Washington High School’s Jordan Scheer Memorial Children’s Relay for Life took place Friday, April 26.
The event took place at Scanlan Stadium at Washington High School.
The event was put together by the WHS student council and leadership class.
The theme this year was, “Home Runs for Hope.”
There were 15 elementary schools participating and approximately 500 students. There were over 200 volunteers.
A total of $25,027 was raised, surpassing the goal of $25,000.
Proceeds from the event are donated to the American Cancer Society and cancer awareness.
Approximately $290,000 has been raised in the 14 years of the event.
Students in grades three through six from the School District of Washington and neighboring parochial schools participated in the event.
This year’s event chairs were seniors Kamryn Mitchell, Gracie Boeckman and Lizzy Sontag, and juniors Elise Pruett, Matt Amlong and Emily Hahne.
The relay is named in honor of Jordan Scheer, a WHS graduate who lost his battle to cancer shortly after his graduation in 2005.

The top fundraising school was St. John The Baptist with $5,617. Second place was Immanuel Lutheran with $2,540. Third place was Labadie Elementary with $2,406.
