Behavior

The University Place School District provides services for students with social/emotional/behavioral learning needs in a variety of settings.

BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION TEAM

When a school team has concerns about a student’s social/emotional/behavioral functioning, they can make a referral to the District’s Behavior Support Team who can provide consultation and/or assist with behavior analysis and interventions. The District Behavior Team members include the Special Services Coordinator; Board Certified Behavior Analyst; Registered Behavior Technician; Behavior Support Paras.

SPECIALLY DESIGNED INSTRUCTION IN SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL/BEHAVIORAL (SEB) SKILLS

For students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) that identify SEB needs, specially designed instruction of these skills is provided in small groups by Special Education teachers and staff across a variety of settings, including in General Education, Learning Resource Centers, and Special Programs. The schedule, time and goals for these services are determined on an individualized basis by the student’s IEP team.  A variety of evidence-based cognitive-behavioral approaches are used to teach skills to support a student’s unique needs in the school setting.

SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING FOR STUDENT WITH INTENSIVE SEB NEEDS

For students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) that identify intensive SEB needs, students may be best served in the ACCESS program. These programs are available at the primary and intermediate levels and in the SUCCESS class at the Secondary level. In these programs, specially designed instruction of SEB skills is provided by Special Education teachers and staff in a fully or partially self-contained classroom.  The staff use a variety of evidence-based cognitive-behavioral approaches to teach skills to support a student’s needs in the school setting and collaborate with general education teachers to support student needs in the least restrictive educational setting.
