Kindergarten Entry Age
A child must be five years of age as of August 31st of the year of entry to be entitled to enter kindergarten. A child's birth certificate must be presented at the time of enrollment.
Immunizations
Washington State law requires certain immunizations against childhood diseases of all students, regardless of age, who attend a public or private school or a licensed day care center. On or before the first day of attendance, proof of the student's (a)full immunizations, (b) initiation of schedule of immunization, or (c) certificate of exemption must be presented at the school. The legally required vaccines for students entering kindergarten are:
- Four doses of DTP or DTaP vaccine, with the last dose at or after age four.
- Four doses of Polio (OPV or IPV) vaccine. Three doses of Polio vaccine are acceptable, only if the last dose is given on or after your child's fourth birthday.
- Two doses of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR). Both MMR vaccines must be given on or after your child's first birthday and there must be at least 28 days between doses.
- Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, with last dose 6 months of age or older.
- Two doses of varicella (chicken pox) vaccine. Both varicella vaccines must be given on or after your child's first birthday. There must be at least 28 days between each dose. The varicella vaccine must be received the same day as MMR, or at least 28 days apart.
Certified waivers are permitted if parents have religious, medical, or personal objections. They must be on file with the school.
Please call your health care provider if you have questions or concerns.
Emergency Information
In the event your student should become ill or suffer an injury, it is important for school personnel to be able to contact you during the school day. Please keep the office informed of your home, work, and alternate emergency telephone numbers. Should school be closed early due to bad weather or an emergency situation, it is also important to have an alternate place for your child to go in case no one is at home. Again, this is for the safety of your child and you are urged to determine an alternative plan and be sure your child knows it.
Legal Custody Documentation
In cases involving court-ordered custody of children, schools must have on file current STATE OF WASHINGTON court documentation of the custody in order to assure compliance with any court orders.
