In its last league meet of the year, South Windsor's math team placed second to Avon by seven points, finishing the season 2nd place overall in the 26-team Capitol Area Math League. Scoring a perfect 18 points for the Bobcats were Aryan Kalia, Michael Ngo, Yunfei Zheng, and Pranav Ramesh. Jaideep Naik and Keshav Ramesh also had great meets with 17 and 15 points. Next up for the team is the state meet on April 1st, where they will challenge for the Medium School championship.

The results of the American Mathematics Contest are in, and here are our top scorers: On the AMC10, 3rd place is Yunfei Zheng with 106.5 points, 2nd place is Jaideep Naik with 111 points, and 1st place goes to Aryan Kalia with 112.5 points. On the AMC12, 3rd place is Keshav Ramesh with 78 points, 2nd place is Noah Leibowitz with 82.5 points, and 1st place is Michael Ngo with 97.5 points. In addition, Michael, Aryan, Jaideep, and Yunfei qualified to take the very prestigious American Invitational Mathematics Examination. Congratulations to all who competed! Reminder: Junior Prom tickets will be available for sale starting TODAY after school from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in room 159. Only one person per group needs to come. Please be sure to bring the following with you:
1. Checks made out to the Class of 2021 for $80 (or $160 per couple). The individual who is representing the group needs to have all checks from everyone in the group.
2. Outside guest forms appropriately completed and identification of guests (as requested on the form).
3. Meal choices--must be appropriately filled out for all members of the group. As stated above, the individual who is representing the group needs to come with 1 meal choice form, and this form needs to be completed for all members at the table.

The UConn Office of Early College Programs has two scholarship opportunities that will allow students to participate in the 2020 Pre-College Summer (PCS) program. The UConn Pre-College Summer ECE Partner School Scholarship is for students at ECE partner schools only. The student chosen does not have to be enrolled in a UConn course, but must be a student at the partner school. The UConn Pre-College Summer Geosciences Scholarship can be shared with anyone. Students must be CT residents. Students 16 years to 18 years old who are enrolled in a Connecticut high school may apply, but students graduating in 2020 are NOT eligible. The camp runs from July 26th through August 1st at the Yale University campus, where students will stay for the week. A link to the application is in the Enrichment Programs listed in Naviance.

Bobcat Robotics is hosting a fundraiser at a local Indian restaurant this Sunday, February 23rd from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Come out and support the team. Look around for flyers or talk to anyone on the team for more details. All proceeds go to the SWHS Bobcat Robotics Team.
Seniors: If you are still thinking of applying to Central Connecticut State University, you are in luck! They are waiving fees for applications filed in the month of February thanks to their “Have a Heart” fundraising campaign. To take advantage of this opportunity get your materials ready and submitted before time runs out.
A new function has been added to PowerSchool. Students can now see previous course history and grades. When logged into PowerSchool, look for the tabs listing previous school years, and check out your prior courses and grades. This will be very helpful when selecting classes for next year.

Seniors: the following South Windsor Dollars for Scholars scholarships have less than typical interest thus far, please consider applying to: The Borelli Scholarship for seniors looking to major in elementary or early education - this scholarship can truly make the difference between living on campus and commuting. The SW Superintendent’s Manchester Community College scholarship. The Jeff Czapala Unified Sports and/or Unified Theater scholarship. Please see Mrs. Carty in the Career Center with any questions.
Freshmen have an opportunity to apply now for a college scholarship through the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET). To be eligible for the CHET Advance Scholarship you must be a high school freshman in Connecticut with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and intend to begin a higher education program no later than September 2024. There are two types of scholarships available – one that is a random drawing and another that requires a civic engagement assignment. For information on how to apply see the Career Center, your Social Studies teacher, or the scholarship database in Naviance. The deadline is March 12th.
On Wednesday of last week, the SWHS Math Team had their best meet of the season, winning the meet by an amazing 24 points over 2nd place Avon. This cut Avon's 33 point lead in the league standings to only 9 points with one meet left in the season. Scoring a perfect 18 out of 18 points for the Bobcats were Aryan Kalia, Jaideep Naik, and Keshav Ramesh. Michael Ngo and Yunfei Zheng secured the win with 17 and 15 points respectively. South Windsor can finish no lower than 2nd place in the 25 team league, and has already qualified for the State and New England Meets.
