SCHOOL NEWS:

A final reminder to seniors that the gift card fundraiser orders and payments are due tomorrow to Ms. Andrews (Room. 264) or Mrs. Farrell (Room 231).

Today is Veterans Day, a federal holiday in the United States which takes place every year on November 11th.  This date is in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 that signaled the end of World War I, known at the time as Armistice Day. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. We take this opportunity each year to thank and honor those that have served our country. Today, students will be viewing a virtual Veterans Day ceremony in all period 4 classes. Additionally, Veterans from our community, including representatives from the Patriotic Commission and American Legion, will be visiting social studies classes. To our special guests, we say thank you for your service and for visiting South Windsor High School!

Sign-ups for the American Mathematics Contest are available now! The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. This is open to any student who enjoys solving challenging problems in mathematics.

This year, we will offer both administrations of the test: the AMC 10/12A and the AMC 10/12B!

The AMC 10/12A will be given after school on Wednesday, November 6. Students will meet in the SWHS cafeteria at 3:00pm, and we should be done by 4:45pm.

The AMC 10/12B will be given during the school day on Tuesday, November 12. It will be administered during Period 3 and part of Bobcat Block in the cafeteria that day.  You will miss these classes and will be marked as ACT (school activity) in Powerschool (you will return to Bobcat Block after the test is complete and all materials have been collected).

You may take either administration or both, depending on your goals and availability. If you are interested in participating, you must first join the AMC 10/12 Google Classroom.  The class code is: s3niret.

Once you are in the Google Classroom, read the instructions in the stream. In order to reserve a spot to take the test, you must fill out the Google Form for the version you want to take in the assignment "AMC 10/12  Reservation Forms" by TUESDAY, October 29. We will be placing the order based on the responses after that deadline, so if you fill it out after that date, you will only be able to take the test if there happen to be tests available for that version.  Note that if you want to take both versions of the AMC, you will need to fill out both Google Forms.

Any questions see Mr. Brindisi TODAY!
