Just effective this week: Chartwells is offering free lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for ALL virtual learners. Next week, we will return to our normal pick up schedule of 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for all distance learners.

Seniors: The next wave of virtual Capstone presentations will be on Thursday, January 14th from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. In order to be eligible to present, you must submit all of your written work to your adviser's Capstone Google Classroom by Friday, Jan. 8th and receive a successful on all work. Postings with your presentation time and Google Meet links will be located on the Capstone Experience Website starting on Tuesday, Jan. 12th. If you have any questions please reach out to your adviser.

SWHS is administering the American Mathematics Contest on Thursday, February 4. This year, the test will be given virtually and administered after school from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The AMC is a national competition consisting of 25 challenging multiple choice problems given over 75 minutes involving a variety of mathematics. There is a version for 9 and 10 graders, and a separate version for 11 and 12 graders with more complex mathematical topics. If you are interested in taking the test, you must sign up for the AMC 10/12 2021 Google Classroom with the code tm75r3l. Once in the classroom, you must fill out the Google Form to reserve a test by this Friday, January 8 at noon to guarantee a spot taking the test. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Brindisi.

The Teen Center Youth Council has put together a month-long fundraiser to support a nonprofit organization, called Dignity Grows. We are asking for monetary donations from the community that will go towards purchasing hygiene products for those in need. Spread the word and support your local Youth Council and their efforts!

For current juniors looking to improve their SAT scores, College Planning Partnerships is offering this year's SAT prep class live and online. Current juniors can sign up for the 8-week, 20-hour course by going to www.satprepct.com/courses. Make sure to sign up soon to ensure you get the days and times that best suit your schedule. The course normally costs $695, but South Windsor High School juniors can enter the special code SWHS2021 at checkout to receive a $245 discount, reducing the cost to $450.

A reminder to seniors applying to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving scholarship program. The application deadline for their largest pool of scholarships is January 15th! Winter recess is a great time to complete your application in their portal. For a link to the Hartford Foundation scholarships and many others, go to Naviance, click on the Colleges tab, and then scroll down to Scholarships and Money for the Scholarship List.

They are accepting canned goods, toiletries, and cleaning supplies which will be donated to the South Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. Please come support your local Youth Council and their efforts!

Seniors working on college applications are reminded that due to the upcoming winter recess, academic records request forms need to be submitted to School Counseling by Tuesday, December 22nd for any colleges or universities with January 15th application deadlines. This includes UConn applications! The School Counseling office must have at least 10 school days to gather, organize and send out your school based documents. Without that time, there is no guarantee that they will arrive before the application deadline.

Western Connecticut State University will host a virtual visit with SWHS students tomorrow, December 15th at 1:00 p.m. Students can sign up and receive the meeting link through Naviance.
