Lisha Kill Middle School has been honored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for its participation in the Pennies for Patients Program during the 2017-18 school year.
By raising $5,548.07, Lisha Kill was named a Champion of Change and was the top fundraiser of Upstate New York and Vermont schools last year.
The Pennies for Patients campaign was in honor of Shana Marra, who died in January 2018 at the age of 44. Shana was a talented special education teacher (Lisha Kill Middle School) and mentor, a superb, loyal friend, a dynamic family member and proud mother of two middle school boys.
“This is a wonderful tribute to Shana,” said Lisha Kill Principal David Wetzel. “It shows the true spirit of our Lisha Kill family.”
By collecting donations like this, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is able to find effective cancer therapies that, over the last 50 years, have increased the childhood leukemia survival rate from 3 percent to 90 percent.
