Freshman Orientation Information For Sept. 5

Dear Freshman,

Welcome!  We hope everyone is enjoying a safe and happy summer.  As August draws to a close it is time for the high school faculty and staff to begin its preparation for the upcoming school year.  We are excited for the class of 2022 to join us for the next phase of their educational journey and as a counseling department we look forward to meeting all of you and helping you transition to your new surroundings.

Therefore, as part of your transition, we would like to invite you to Freshman Orientation on Wednesday, September 5,  7 to 10:45 a.m. at Colonie Central High School.

There will be a regular pickup run by the Transportation Department at your designated pick-up location. The Transportation Department will be mailing out a bus stop location/times notice in late August. Please refer to that for specific bus information. At the conclusion of the program, buses will depart from the high school at 10:55 a.m. and follow a traditional end of the day procedure. Therefore, the location of the busses for dismissal and their destinations from the high school will be identical to what the students will experience on a daily basis.

On the morning of Freshman Orientation, students will be asked to report to their assigned homerooms by 7:26 a.m. Schedules containing homeroom information will be mailed home at the end of August.

Students: Please have this schedule with you or knowledge of your homeroom number with you. No other supplies will be necessary. Locker assignments (Period 9) and full schedules (HR/Period 1) will be distributed to students as part of Orientation Program. This should relieve some additional anxiety and more thoroughly prepare them for that exciting, or potentially stressful, first day of high school. The morning program will run on the following modified class schedule:

  • First Bell – 7:19 a.m.
  • Second Bell – 7:23 a.m.
  • Final Bell/Homeroom – 7:24 a.m.
  • Morning Announcements – 7:24 – 7:30 a.m.
  • Period 1  – 7:30 – 7:47 a.m.
  • Period 2 – 7:51 – 8:08 a.m.
  • Period 3 – 8:12 – 8:29 a.m.
  • Period 4 – 8:33 – 8:50 a.m.
  • Period 5 – 8:54 – 9:11 a.m.
  • Period 6 – 9:15 – 9:32 a.m.
  • Period 7 – 9:36 – 9:53 a.m.
  • Period 8 – 9:57 – 10:14 a.m.
  • Period 9 – 10:18 – 10:35 a.m.
  • Locker Assignments – 10:35 – 10:45 a.m.
  • Dismissal to Buses – 10:45 a.m.
  • Bus Departure – 10:55 a.m.

This Freshman Orientation Program allows students to meet all their teachers, hear academic and behavioral expectations, identify their classmates, and experience travelling from class to class in their new academic setting. The Counseling Department is situated between the Health Office and the West Wing Cafeteria. We look forward to seeing you on September 5th.

Sincerely,

High School Counseling Department
