Hi all,

Sorry I am a little late on this. Spent yesterday afternoon, evening,
and today with the Connolly Crew on Mt Rose. We had a wonderful hike up today (especially since there was no smoke – beautiful skies up there).

As many of you have noticed, we had some landscaping last weekend. Riley Welch (Diane’s son) completed his Eagle Scout project with the help of many volunteers. They built wonderful stairs leading up to the office, put in some plants, and laid out wood chips and a rock “stream”. Also thanks to Seamus Gallagher for all his help with the project. Looks great, and the steps are fantastic!

Picture day is Tues, Sept 23. Order forms are going home this week.
The makeup day is Oct 16 (this is also the all school picture day).

With fieldwork in full swing, please make sure you get your permission forms in as soon as possible and that they are completely filled out, especially at the bottom which has the emergency contact number. Thanks.

Parking requests: TTUSD is asking SELS parents to NOT park along
roadway in large parking lot (creates traffic issues, especially with
the buses) ; DMV is requesting that SELS parents do NOT park in their lot (they are concerned with children around in their driver’s
training space). ** Please honor both of these requests to
demonstrate SELS’ commitment to community.

Based on requests from parents, Tahoe School of Music will now offer a couple of new after school
programs: 1) Group guitar for grades 2-5 at the Kid Zone on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:15; and 2) Minimum Day Music at Tahoe School of Music right after they get out of School. Please contact Ben Martin at ben@tahoemusic.net if interested.

Save the Date for the Fall Family Photo Shoot!
When: Sunday, October 12th
Where: Martis Camp Barn
Time: 8:30-4:30
Photographer: Whitby B (voted Truckee’s #1 photographer)
Cost: $60 advance payment includes sitting fee plus 10 print ready
photos for your use. Whitby B Photography is donating her time to
benefit SELS. See the attached flyer for additional information. Sign up for your desired time on the google doc that will be sent out to all crews or contact Denise at dstrecker@truckeecharterschool.org. Spread the word to family and friends and secure your spot with an advanced payment before they run out!
We’re currently looking for 2 or more volunteers from the SELS
community to split two 4 hour shifts and assist with checking in
families for the photo shoot. Please sign up on the google doc if you
can help out. Thank you in advance for devoting your time to benefit
SELS!

The year’s first SELS-ebration! Family Dance was a big success. Great to see our community come out and enjoy each others’ company. Thanks to all who helped make this happen.

Hola a todos,

Lo siento, estoy un poco tarde en esto. Pasé ayer por la tarde, por la
noche, y hoy con el Crew de Connolly en el Monte Rosa. Tuvimos una
maravillosa excursión hasta hoy (sobre todo porque no había humo –
hermoso cielo allá arriba).

Como muchos de ustedes han notado, teníamos un poco de jardinería fin
de semana pasado. Riley Welch (hijo de Diane) completó su proyecto de
Eagle Scout con la ayuda de muchos voluntarios. Ellos construyeron
escaleras maravillosas que conduce a la oficina, poner en algunas
plantas, y se presentarán las virutas de madera y un “flujo” de rock.

Settling into routines

Hi all,

Hope the transition back to school has gone well for everyone. Things are going smoothly here on campus. Fieldwork season is kicking in and we have a new gear shed to help with that. Many thanks to Seamus Gallagher for building it and to Susanna Neave, Tina Bassett, and Sonja Martin for taking on the lovely task of organizing and inventorying all the camping supplies.

Our wall in M-2 in currently under construction, thanks to Matt
Parisi, and we are continuing to work on getting the turf field
approved and then built.

Also, thanks to Kirsten Pekarek for volunteering as our Measure U
representative.

No community meeting this week as crews will be meeting with buddies.

No school Sept 29 (TTUSD professional development day) and Nov 10-11 (TTUSD professional development day and Veteran’s Day).

Pick up and drop off have been going well, though couple reminders:
Please do not leave your car in the drop off/pick up lane; this forces
others to unsafely drop off/pick up their children in the roadway.
No elementary students allowed in the parking lot without a
parent/guardian; this is also a safety issue and a district request.

Last week’s Notes forgot to mention that Excellence in Education has changed their by-laws so they are now able to include SELS. This was a wonderful gesture on their part and continues our process of truly being a district school. As a reminder….

SELS-ebration! Family Dance
We hope you will join us for a fun night of dancing this coming Friday.
The Back to School Dance is an all ages, family dance, and everyone isinvited! Please feel free to invite your non-SELS family and friends.
WHEN: Friday, September 12 , 6-8pm
WHERE: SELS gym
COST: $5 per person or $15 per family
There will be pizza slices for sale and a bake sale. Please remember
to bring your own water bottles to stay hydrated!
This is not a student drop off situation. All students should be under
the supervision of an adult at all times.
The PTC is still looking for volunteers to help set up, sell pizza,
greet attendees and clean up. Please contact us at

Fieldwork T-Shirt Exchange & Sales
If Fieldwork T-Shirts no longer fit and you wish to donate/exchange,
please send to school Friday as the PTC will have a bin at Community
Meeting where they can be deposited. Please also feel free to look
through the bin for a size that works for you and/or your students.
Additionally, we have quite a few shirts to sell which will be
available for purchase at the School Dance on Friday, September 12th ($10/shirt). If we no longer have your size, PTC (in collaboration with W&T Graphix) is hoping to launch a website in the next couple weeks where you can order t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts and other gear.
