Fall Meeting Minutes

October 2^nd, 2023

 

The Fall Business Meeting was held at 7pm at Brewser’s SportsGrille.

 

13 members and guests were in attendance.

 

President Charlie Wayne ’77 called the business meeting to order at 7:10pm.

 

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:  Todd Hockenbroch’s ’97 report was unavailable.

 

 

SECRETARY’S REPORT:  Minutes from the April 19^th 2023 meeting were posted on the website for review.  On a motion from Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74 and Tammy Linton Glowatski '87, the minutes were approved.  All were in favor.

 

Note – We are in need of a secretary for the alumni association given the resignation of Jamie Bordell ’75 on 09/14/2023.  If you have an interest or some input, please see an alumni association officer.

 

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Greg Dwulet ’68 provided a report via email as follows:

General checking balance = $28,341.68

Education checking balance = $69,346.58

On a motion from Jeff Schlader ’73 and Amy Henninger Rachau '83, the treasurer’s report was approved.  All were in favor.

 

Additional financial business:

• Jeff Schlader ’73 and Kathy Faust Jeremiah ’73 presented a gift of $1,973 from their 50^th class reunion on August 5^th to the scholarship fund.
• Jeff Clutcher ’78 presented a class gift from their 45^th class reunion earlier this summer to the scholarship fund in the amount of $400.

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS:  Nothing to report.

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

Banquet:  John Klinger ’68 reported Saturday May 25th 2024 is confirmed with Masser’s Catering of Paxinos – Banquet Hall.  Details concerning the menu, cost, etc. TBD and will be communicated at a later meeting.

 

Afterglow:  Nothing to report.

 

 

Entertainment:  Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 reported the following via an email:

In a change of her teaching position at the high school (moved to social studies from music), she will be in contact with the new choral director in the future for their plans for entertainment for the May 2024 banquet.

 

Invitations/Newsletters:  John Clutcher ’74 reported ongoing communications to still use our current publisher Paulhamus Litho.

Program:  Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74 will need information closer to the May 2024 program.

 

Auditing:  Nothing to report.

 

Awards:  Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 reported the following via an email:

I'm still in the high school (moved to the social studies department), so I can still help with relaying information back and forth regarding the alumni exam, etc.

By-Laws:  Given the resignation of Jamie Bordell ’75 on 09/14/2023, we do have an opening on this committee.

 

Class Representatives:  Jeff Clutcher ’78 reported two new class reps from the class of 2023 - Kathleen Amato and Kayla Harvey.

 

Educational Fund:  Group will meet on Wednesday October 4^th, 2024.

 

Memorabilia:  Nothing to report.

 

Nominations:  We have a need for a male Vice-President for 2024-25.  If you have an interest or some input, please see an alumni association officer.

 

Publicity:  Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74 sent an email to The News-Item to post tonight’s meeting in the Community Calendar.  Given the resignation of Jamie Bordell ’75 on 09/14/2023, we do have an opening for someone to run this committee.

 

Website:  John Clutcher ‘74 reported the following:

For a historical perspective, the initial alumni webpage was created on April 8th, 1998 using my AOL account.  It relocated to the high school server on February 12th, 2002.  On June 20th, 2011, it relocated to the schoolwires.net server as part of the school district web service.

Routine maintenance, such as email updates, posting minutes/newsletter, graduation/banquet programs, updating “US Mailing Addresses Missing”, posting Class Reunion information, and changing class representatives are an ongoing process.  You can check out the website using the following path:

Webpage reflects Facebook entry for the alumni association created in the fall 2014.  Current membership is at 336 (up from 318 at the April 19^th 2023 meeting).

NEW BUSINESS:  Future meeting times were scheduled.

Winter Meeting – Monday January 8^th 2024 - 6pm.  Grace Lutheran Church – 7^th and Chestnut Streets – Shamokin PA – Fellowship Hall Downstairs.

 

Spring Meeting – Monday April 8^th 2024 - 6pm.  Grace Lutheran Church – 7^th and Chestnut Streets – Shamokin PA – Fellowship Hall Downstairs.

With no further business, on a motion from Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74 and Jeff Schlader ’73, with full group approval, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50pm.
