SAHS Alumni Association
October 24, 2020 Meeting Agenda
Zoom Meeting
15 members attended via zoom/phones at 2pm.
President Amy Henninger Rachau ’83 called the meeting to order.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: nothing at this time.
SECRETARY’S REPORT:
Minutes from April 21, 2020 meeting are on the website for review.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Gregory Dwulet ’68 provided the treasurer’s update.
General Fund-----$17,440.80
Education Fund---$29,796.96
Greg spoke about contribution and donation are down due to COVID.
He reported a donation made by Nathan Weidenhamer ’02 and his Sister, Deanna ’96. When they were seniors – both received a scholarship. They provided a donation of $7,500 for an annual award based on the investment earnings. Award would go to a female senior who has the highest GPA in STEM related subjects - science, technology, engineering, and math – who expects to enter a STEM field in postgraduate work.
The consensus was to create a new award called the Weidenhamer Family Award starting in 2021. This new award may generate approximately $200 a year. This could build up over time, especially if additional contributions are added. A new award cannot pull down from principle, but needs to be awarded from growth only.
COMMUNICATIONS: nothing at this time.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Banquet: John Klinger ’68 reported it’s good to go but undetermined if event will occur in 2021 due to Covid. Potential date is for the banquet is Memorial Day weekend, which would be Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Masser’s Banquet Hall, Paxinos. PA.

Awards: Last year they were taped and presented via an online broadcast from the school at the awards program. Unclear if this would need to occur again at the end of the current school year, especially if we do not have a banquet to report scholarship winners.

Mildred Sharp Memorial Award
Award was established around 2014 when the Richard/Mildred Sharp Estate (Mildred was from the class of 1931) bequeathed the SAHS Alumni association a gift. The approximate yearly income from the estate is estimated to be between $3,000 – $4,000 of which some of this income will be used as an award to a graduating senior while some income can be placed in the general fund to help with the alumni expenses. This is based upon the initial setup of the fund where the alumni association can use the funds as needed.
Miriam Birchard Memorial Award
Award was established around 2014 when the Miriam Birchard (class of 1941) Estate informed the Alumni of an initial gift in the amount of $14,436.60. The SAHS Alumni Association decided to set aside $10,000 be used for this scholarship (generating $200 - $300/yr), with the remaining $4,439.69 (generating $133/yr) be earmarked for the general fund to help with Alumni expenses.
