Afterglow:  Trivia game went well at the May 2021 banquet.  Erik Anderson ’97 will run the event this year.  Possibly getting prizes from the community for the trivia contest.  Students are going to put a Shamokin Trivia game together.  Each table will be a team.

Entertainment:  Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 reported senior members of the chorus will provide entertainment at the banquet.  Mary Anne will work on the details.

Invitations/Newsletters:  Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 reported the date was incorrect for the meeting minutes in the Newsletter from last year (said 2001, but should have said 2021).

Discussion was made concerning a family receiving one newsletter rather than many per household.  From a Logistical standpoint, this would be challenging to change and maintain.  Each individual is a graduate, and the newsletter follows them as needed.

Programs:  Monday May 9th is the deadline to get the information to Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74.  Some items to consider:

  • Need to President’s Message.
  • Name and title of the minister or person doing the invocation and who is the Senior Class President?
  • Who will be the presenter for the Scholarship Awards?
  • There will be 2 past presidents remembered “In Memoriam”. They are Dorothy Zebrowski Goodman ‘44 and Irvin Liachowitz ‘42.
  • How much will we spend on door prizes?
  • Jeff Clutcher has the gifts for the 50-year anniversary.

Auditing:  Nothing to report.  The position is open and needs to be filled.

Awards:  May 25th.  The one male, one female athlete award to start this year.  Erik Anderson ’97 to work with the high school guidance department on details and will pull in treasurer Gregory Dwulet ’68 as needed.  At the October 25th 2021 meeting a new policy was established that a $100 minimum award amount is to be used.  This will be applied to the one male and one female new athletic award.

By-Laws:  Nothing to report at this time.

Class Representatives:  Jeff Clutcher ’78 reported - Removed Stacey Derck and added Mark Kramer and Lorrie Mrozowski as class reps for 1982.

Educational Fund:  Bob Mattis ’68 reports - Jeff Clutcher ’78 to be president of the educational fund next year.  Matt Weller ’91 (outgoing president) to take over as secretary for Frances Lee Culp ‘63.  Slightly over $1,600 received from Helen Jane Murphy ’43 estate.

Memorabilia:  Nothing to report at this time.

Nominations:  We need a male Vice President for 2022-2023.

John Klinger ‘ 68 presented the following Alumni Association officers for ratification who were nominated by the Executive committee for 2022-2023:

  • President: Mary Anne Brennan Stump ‘00
  • Vice President: Open
  • Secretary: Jamie A. Hoffman Bordell ‘75
  • Treasurer: Gregory Dwulet ‘68
  • Registrar/Historian: Jeffrey Clutcher ‘78

Publicity:  This meeting was posted on our webpage.  Jamie A. Hoffman Bordell ’75 placed a notice in the News-Item for meeting tonight.  It was not placed in Noteworthy or Community calendar as requested via email.

Website:  Report provided by John Clutcher ’74.

Reported various maintenance updates for class rep, reunions, email updates, etc.

Added the following under the “Officers” and “How You Can Help” parts of the webpage:

  • Jeff Clutcher '78 gave notice at the October 25th 2021 meeting that in 2026 he would like to give up his registrar and historian positions. Please contact Jeff if you have an interest in learning more about this opportunity to help the Alumni Association.  Consider working alongside Jeff for a period of time to review what he does and to establish an orderly turnover of his current responsibilities.
  • Mary Anne Brennan Stump '00 is chair of the INVITATION/NEWSLETTER. She provides a direct line of communication between the alumni association and the publisher for the newsletter.  As reported at the January 10th, 2022 alumni meeting - Due to her work responsibilities, she needs to step back as the primary contact but will still be on the committee.  If anyone has the time and interest in taking on this responsibility, please reach out to Mary Anne for details.  She will be stepping down as the chair after the current 2022 Newsletter has been delivered.

On 02/20/2022 - Many people reported getting an email from Erik Anderson asking for a gift card donation as part of the alumni association.  This was false.  Someone pulled the mailing list from the public email directory and sent the request around February 18th.  I emailed a communication out to 296 members stating to ignore and that this was not true.

Working with Mary Anne Brennan Stump '00, added an alumni music survey to the website under “Class Reunions and Related Activities”.  The Shamokin Area High School music department is gathering information to plan an alumni music event during the 2022-2023 school year.  In order to create the best experience for all involved, it would be helpful to first gather information from those who would like to participate.

Added a new entry to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the webpage - How does the Alumni Association process name changes?

For future review - Starting a discussion on the technical needs and long-term support of alumni association website, Facebook and database needs.  Discussion to continue in the fall.  See John if you have an interest or need more details about this opportunity.

OLD BUSINESS:  Nothing at this time.

NEW BUSINESS:  At the October 25th 2021 Alumni Association Meeting, under new business, we started a discussion of different ways our group could increase exposure to who we are and what we do.  This could be in the form of organizing another event such as a visit to the Whaleback Rock Formation or hosting a dance.

Events Committee – Joe Judy ’01 will be part of a committee to see how the alumni association can expand and increase exposure.  This is an initial discussion of a new committee

Comments:  Thank you Erik for setting up the Zoom meeting.  He will be investigating what is needed to get our own Zoom account or at least use him to set it up for meetings.

BANQUET:  Will be held on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at Masser’s Banquet Hall, Paxinos, PA at 5:30pm.

With no further business, motion was made by John Clutcher ’74 and seconded by Jeff Schlader ’73 for the meeting to adjourned at 8:06pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jamie A. Hoffman Bordell ‘75
