April 19th, 2023
The Spring Business Meeting was held at 6:30pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 7th and Chestnut Streets. – Shamokin, PA - Fellowship Hall, downstairs. No Zoom call this meeting.
9 members and guests were in attendance.
President Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 called the business meeting to order at 6:35pm.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Todd Hockenbroch’s ’97 report was sent over to the President due to him being unable to attend this meeting. Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 will be doing a follow-up at the school to coordinate with the guidance student sign-up for the banquet. Todd is interested in the Wall Of Fame (WOF) discussion for alumni and wants to be part of this initial process (see old business).
Note - A document on securing banquet reservations is available on the website which describes who pays to attend the banquet, the cost per person, who collects the funds and establishing deadlines. See "Banquet Registration" under Policy and Procedures.
In the future, we should consider an alumni representative to be used to check in on the policy process referenced above to ensure all is going well.

Invitations/Newsletters: John Clutcher ’74 reported that the newsletter mailing started yesterday (4/18). Additional information posted on the webpage on how to print out page 19 of the April 2023 newsletter to secure a banquet ticket if needed to process prior to receiving a newsletter.
Note - A document on the newsletter publication process is available on the website which describes what the committee uses to create, publish, and mail. See " SAHS Alumni Association - Newsletter Responsibilities" under Policy and Procedures.
Program: Mary Anne Pitorak Miller ’74 reported that she needs information for the program by Friday May 5th. Some other points:
- Words for “God Bless America” to be added to the program as space permits.
- Distance Award was clarified to be for the alumni attending the banquet, not anyone attending (such as a guest of an alumni who provided transportation).
- Treasurer Greg Dwulet ’68 can use his discretion for an “Age Award” as he receives registration/payment to attend the banquet from someone who may have made a great effort to attend and is from an older class.
Auditing: Nothing to report at this time.
Awards: Mary Anne Brennan Stump ’00 to be active with the presentation on Friday May 26th.
Note - A document on the awards program is available on the website which describes the process. See "SAHS Alumni Association Scholastic Awards Program Procedural Document" under Policy and Procedures.
By-Laws: Nothing to report at this time.
Class Representatives: Nothing to report at this time.
Educational Fund: Bob Mattis ’68 commented that the value of funds has decreased over the last year given the downturn in the stock market. With that being said, the number and amount of awards will be the same as last year.
Memorabilia: Nothing to report at this time.
Nominations: We have a need for a female Vice-President for 2023-24. Some potential candidates are being considered but have not yet committed to the position. If you have an interest or some input, please see an alumni association officer.
Publicity: Jamie A. Hoffman Bordell ’75 sent an email to The News-Item to post tonight’s meeting in Noteworthy and Community Calendar, but it did not occur. Banquet coverage for the newspaper is needed, with it being unclear if the News-Item can provide coverage. We may need to post pictures and names on our own – or at least gather this information for the News-Item.
Website: John Clutcher ‘74 reported the following:
For a historical perspective, the initial alumni webpage was created on April 8th, 1998 using my AOL account. It relocated to the high school server on February 12th, 2002. On June 20th, 2011, it relocated to the schoolwires.net server as part of the school district web service.
Routine maintenance, such as email updates, posting minutes/newsletter, graduation/banquet programs, updating “US Mailing Addresses Missing”, posting Class Reunion information, and changing class representatives are an ongoing process. You can check out the website using the following path:
