Title One Meeting Jan 10, 2018

Good Morning All,

Here is the agenda and handouts from the PTO meeting last night. Dr. Bruce went over our testing scores and attendance. We have a total of 462 students. We learned that the students have been having a “re-teaching session” about 6 weeks after the subject was first taught and that there has been great improvement due to this. Our test scores seem to be improving. Children who are on the brink of moving to the next academic level (basic, proficient, mastery, or advanced) are being given some extra tutoring to help test scores increase. Also, we want to continue students to strive for better attendance. We have been meeting the goals and want to continue to do better as attendance of our students is taken into account of the district’s budget and accreditation. We request to have Dr. Bruce’s presentation available for all parent’s to see by putting it on the school’s website.

LaTonia is currently in the process of getting the PTO a tax id. Once that has been done we will finally have a bank account to start using funds for our events and other things. We had a teacher request funds for her room ,which I would like to accommodate. Talk to your children’s teachers and see if anyone else has any volunteer or funding opportunities for us.

Marlena & Mrs. Williams have set up some more fundraisers for us. The $1 chocolate bars and $5 snacks fundraisers are right around the corner. I have also attached a letter that we can distribute for raise donations for the Bingo night. If you know of a business owner please consider giving them this letter. It will be a tax write-off for them.

Muffins with Mom will be on January 25 from 8:30am to 9:30am. This will begin before school starts to help eliminate disruption. We have invited a keynote speaker Ms. El.

Science night will be on Wednesday February 7 from 6:30 to 7:30. This will be counted as the PTO meeting. We will have a PTO table set up and will give out information and hopefully recruit some more volunteers at that time.

I was finally able to set up our PTO bulletin board. Stop and take a look. See if there is anything we can add. As events change we will update the board as another means of informing parents, teachers, and staff.

Thanks,
